Stockport Loaves and Fishes, Stockport Baptist Church, Audacious, Barnabus, St Mary’s met to coordinate the event.
The cost of the Banquet was born by Stockport Loaves and fishes.
the Team had arranged to arrive at 5pm, although access was needed earlier for the band to set up PA system.
They managed to gain access earlier than 5. The main team arrived at 5 set up and dressed the tables
The guests arrived at 6 and the meal was served at 6.15. The meal was plain in presentation and well received. The meal was prepared and served by some our Iranian refugees as their way of giving something back into the community that has supported them.
Between courses Andrew Palau spoke and a few took the opportunity to have a cigarette break, from which some did not return. So not all heard the message of hope.
A couple who came in to see the church also joined and mingled with the guests. Following desert (where there was a good selection to choose from), the group Sovereign performed, which was well received by those who remained, 2 guests got up to dance.
The event finished at 8.0. All the tables were folded down and the chairs set up for church on Sunday. As guests left, they were given a gift bag to take with them. There were about 20 to 23 people present as guests (If you include 2-3 of the volunteers).
It was successful in that it gave people experiencing homelessness a hearty hot meal, shelter, entertainment, and a message of hope. Several of our volunteers who are not yet followers of Jesus were impacted by the event and speaking to Andrew Palau - some of them came along the festival where they met Andrew again.
